Southern California Regionals: Saturday’s Results
In a series of thrilling matchups on Saturday, several teams advanced in the Southern California Regional soccer championships. The finals showcased intense competition across multiple divisions.
In the boys’ Division I final, top-seeded Mater Dei secured a narrow victory against third-seeded Del Norte, winning 1-0. The Division II match saw second-seeded Mira Monte triumph over first-seeded San Pascual, finishing 2-1. Sixth-seeded Los Alamitos achieved a surprising upset in Division III, defeating the top-seeded Bishop Amat 2-1. Meanwhile, in Division IV, number one Irvine University claimed victory over second-seeded Granite Hills with a score of 2-0. In Division V, third-seeded LA Garfield shut out fifth-seeded Kern County Taft, ending the match 1-0.
On the girls’ side, the Division I final had second-seeded Mater Dei defeating top-seeded Santa Margarita 2-0. The Division II clash between second-seeded Westlake and eighth-seeded Westview ended in a scoreless tie, with Westlake winning 4-2 in the shootout. Fourth-seeded Quartz Hill won against second-seeded Millikan 1-0 in Division III, while fifth-seeded Coachella Valley outperformed third-seeded San Jacinto with a decisive 3-1 finish in Division IV. In Division V, eighth-seeded Coastal Academy emerged victorious against third-seeded Delano Kennedy, winning 2-0.
Looking ahead, the CIF State Championships will take place at Matomas High in Sacramento on March 13 and March 14. Key matchups include San Ramon Valley taking on Mira Monte in boys’ Division II at 8 p.m. and Oakland Bishop O’Dowd facing off against Santa Ana Mater Dei in girls’ Division I at 5:30 p.m.
