Sony Pictures and Macro Film Studios Team Up for Exciting New Projects
Sony Pictures and Macro Film Studios Forge Exclusive Agreement
Sony Pictures and Macro Film Studios have solidified a multiyear agreement encompassing exclusive first-look, co-financing, and distribution rights for future film projects. This partnership aims to enhance collaborative efforts in the film industry.
Under the terms of the agreement, Sony Pictures will have the exclusive opportunity to review and develop feature films produced by Macro. Additionally, the two companies will jointly finance selected projects, with Sony committed to releasing one co-financed film from Macro each year.
The recent collaboration has already made waves, with Macro Film Studios co-funding Sony Pictures Animation’s successful film GOAT. This project, produced by Stephen Curry and Erick Peyton’s Unanimous Media, alongside Academy Award nominee Michelle Raimo Kouyate and Oscar winner Rodney Rothman of Modern Magic, has grossed over $163 million globally.
Previously, Macro collaborated with Sony on the TriStar Pictures film One of Them Days, starring Keke Palmer and SZA. Co-produced with Issa Rae’s Hoorae and ColorCreative, the film achieved commercial success with a $51 million worldwide box office from a production budget of $14 million, prompting discussions for a sequel.
“Sony has been an outstanding partner, and we’re proud to expand our relationship through a first-look and co-financing agreement,” said Charles D. King, Founder and CEO of Macro. “Building on our past work together, James Lopez and I look forward to continuing to bring distinctive stories across genres and formats to audiences worldwide.”
Sanford Panitch, President of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, praised the partnership, stating, “Macro finds stories where others often aren’t looking. Charles and James have an extraordinary history backing their bold instincts and consistently show up being great creative studio partners as well as first-rate producers and co-financiers. We are all thrilled to have Macro here at Sony.”
