Sony LIV Brings Aamir Khan’s Heartwarming Basketball Comedy-Drama ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ to Your Screen
Aamir Khan’s Comedy-Drama "Sitaare Zameen Par" Premieres on Sony LIV
Aamir Khan’s uplifting comedy-drama, Sitaare Zameen Par, is set to premiere on Sony LIV nearly a year after its theatrical release.
This Indian streaming platform, available in over 40 territories, will showcase R. S. Prasanna’s basketball-themed film as the first Hindi theatrical release to debut on its service. The movie, which was released in theaters in June 2025, became the sixth-largest Hindi-language film of the year at the Indian box office. Subsequently, it was also made available on YouTube’s on-demand service.
The narrative centers around Khan’s character, Gulshan Arora, a basketball coach whose life shifts dramatically following a drunk-driving incident that lands him in community service. Tasked with training a team of neurodivergent players for an upcoming basketball tournament, his initial reluctance transforms into a profound personal journey.
Directed by R. S. Prasanna, known for works like Kalyana Samayal Saadham and Shubh Mangal Savdhan, the film features an ensemble cast, including Genelia Deshmukh, Ashish Pendse, Aroush Datta, Aayush Bhansali, Rishi Shahani, Gopikrishnan K Varma, Rishabh Jain, Vedant Sharma, Simran Mangeshkar, Samvit Desai, and Naman Misra.
Khan produced the film alongside Aparna Purohit under the Aamir Khan Productions banner, with B. Shrinivas Rao and Ravi Bhagchandka serving as producers. The screenplay was written by Divy Nidhi Sharma.
Renowned for his roles in iconic films such as 3 Idiots and Peepli Live, Khan is regarded as one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars. In recent years, he has shifted focus towards production, with projects including Sitaare Zameen Par and Laapataa Ladies. His upcoming film is the period drama Lahore 1947, based on Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai.
Sony LIV’s decision to premiere a Hindi film for the first time marks a significant development for the platform, reflecting its evolving approach to content delivery.
