SoFi Stadium Gears Up for 2026 FIFA World Cup

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – March 3 marks a pivotal moment for Los Angeles as it prepares to host matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With just 100 days to go, SoFi Stadium will serve as a central venue for one of the world’s premier sporting events.

As part of the preparations, SoFi Stadium will undergo a rebranding, temporarily becoming "Los Angeles Stadium." Major modifications are set to ensure compliance with FIFA regulations, including the installation of a natural grass field, replacing the current synthetic surface.

“So what is a synthetic field now will become a live, living, natural grass, FIFA specific field,” said a stadium representative. “When it’s elevated and comes all the way out into the expansiveness of this stadium, it will be a truly incredible experience.”

The field will be elevated approximately 30 inches to align with the existing stadium infrastructure. With the dimensions of a regulation soccer pitch larger than that of an NFL field, additional adjustments will be necessary to accommodate the change.

“Because a soccer pitch by regulation size is so much larger than an NFL field, that field is gonna expand all the way,” the representative explained. “You will see that there are demountable sections that will create open airspace when in FIFA mode.”

To maintain the natural grass, SoFi Stadium plans to utilize artificial lighting systems. “These LED lights will stimulate the grass to want to grow as if it’s in a full outdoor environment,” the representative noted.

As the countdown to the World Cup nears, FIFA unveiled the tournament poster, emphasizing a cohesive branding strategy across all venues. “This consistency ensures that FIFA can integrate their brands and utilize major partners effectively,” the representative stated.

Fans can expect a unique experience at Los Angeles Stadium. “The noise and the energy is just incredible. We have an infinity screen, which will make watching soccer here a spectacular experience,” the representative added.
