Snowboarder Chloe Kim Celebrates Her Olympic Success and Bright Future
Chloe Kim Makes Olympic History with Third Consecutive Medal
Chloe Kim, a 25-year-old native of Long Beach, California, has etched her name in Olympic history at the 2026 Winter Games in Milano Cortina by becoming the first female snowboarder to win medals in three consecutive Olympics. The reigning halfpipe champion continues to build on her legacy in the world of competitive snowboarding.
Kim’s journey is further entwined with her father’s past. Jong Jin Kim, an immigrant from South Korea, once visited a psychic in his twenties, seeking direction during a tumultuous period. The fortune teller, known for her accuracy, forecasted a prosperous future for him, advising him to envision a pond that would overflow, allowing him to share its abundance. Although Jong Jin initially interpreted this as a call to open a laundromat, leading to a less-than-successful venture, he later found meaning in his daughter’s achievements.
Reflecting on her family’s journey, Kim stated, “When I started snowboarding, we definitely weren’t in a financially abundant situation at all, believe it or not. I’ve been so fortunate with my career to be able to take care of my parents."
From her first snowboarding experiences at age four, when she hit the slopes with her father at Mountain High Resort in the San Gabriel Mountains, Kim’s talent was evident. After training in Switzerland and regularly competing in California, her father made the significant decision to leave his engineering job to support her burgeoning snowboarding career.
By age 14, Kim became the youngest gold medalist in Winter X Games history, dominating the superpipe event. Though she narrowly missed participating in the 2014 Sochi Olympics due to age restrictions, Kim made her Olympic debut at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, where she became the youngest female athlete to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal.
Despite showing early promise, Kim faced personal challenges, including experiencing cyberbullying and anti-Asian hate during the COVID-19 pandemic. She openly discussed the impact of this harassment on her mental health, revealing that she had dealt with online abuse since her early teens.
Under the guidance of trainer Roy Chan, Kim has incorporated running into her training routine, which she credits with helping her maintain a strong mental and physical state. “I don’t particularly enjoy it, but I do love the way it makes me feel after,” she said.
Kim recently captured gold again at the Beijing Olympics in 2022 and added a silver medal to her collection in February 2026, where she competed despite a dislocated shoulder. Prior to the podium event, she supported fellow Team USA freestyle skier Hunter Hess after he expressed mixed feelings about representing the country. Kim emphasized her pride in representing the U.S., noting the impact her immigrant parents’ journey has had on her personal experience.
Back from Milano Cortina, Kim discussed the whirlwind life following the Olympics, which included overcoming illness and returning to her workout routine. In a lighter moment, she revealed a Valentine’s Day gift from her boyfriend, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett—a custom pink vintage Ford Bronco.
“I’m excited to actually have time to rest and not be sick,” she remarked, expressing her need for recuperation after a demanding season.
Part of Kim’s recovery and routine includes a “rot day,” where she dedicates 24 hours to relaxation. She has also been making strides in her personal life, venturing into fashion and expanding her social media presence despite challenges posed by online interactions.
As she continues to navigate life after the Games, a documentary chronicling her journey is in the works, capturing her experiences as a professional athlete. Kim stated, “At the end of the day, no one knows my story like me and my family.”
Through all her achievements, Kim carries a good luck charm—a pair of white gold hoops—reminding her of her father’s fortune. Reflecting on her career trajectory, she remains focused on maintaining balance, calling on her past to inform her future.
