SNL UK Parodies The Traitors, Highlighting Concerns About Unconscious Racial Bias Among Contestants
Saturday Night Live UK has offered a poignant take on the popular series The Traitors.
Hosted by Riz Ahmed, the latest episode of SNL UK tackled accusations that contestants on The Traitors exhibit unconscious racial bias by consistently voting out contestants of color.
Without breaching copyright, the sketch saw contestants attempting to identify a “great big crab man” among their ranks, all while seated at a round table featuring George Fouracres dressed in a vibrant crab costume.
However, the contestants remained oblivious to the crustacean’s presence as they deliberated under the scrutinizing eye of Celeste Dring’s dark-fringed Claudia Winkleman. Their suspicions instead turned towards Ahmed’s character.
“I’d like to start,” one contestant declared. “This experience has been amazing, but at the end of the day, we need to find the great big crab man. But there’s someone here I just don’t trust, and that person is yourself, Imran.”

In response, Ahmed’s Imran stated: “Okay, I’m just gonna come out and say: Why is nobody looking at Sebastian?” This led to a shot of a visibly embarrassed Fouracres. Ultimately, Imran’s defenses fell short, resulting in his elimination—highlighted by the fact that his fellow contestants misspelled his name on their chalkboards.
Delivering his final remarks, Imran reflected: “I’ve had an amazing time. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’ve made friends for life, but there’s something weighing on my heart that I’ve got to come out and say: I’m obviously not a great big crab man.”
The sketch sharply critiqued the unconscious bias faced by contestants of color on The Traitors, particularly as numerous Black participants exited in the early rounds. Athena Kugblenu articulated this concern in The Guardian earlier this year, stating, “Black people are treated differently, and examples of this on reality TV are constant. We’re not very ‘woke’ if we’re still surprised when Black people are kicked out of reality TV shows first.”
