Sinners Takes Home 14 Wins at the Black Reel Awards – Complete List Here
Sinners Dominates 2026 Black Reel Awards with Record 14 Wins
The film Sinners achieved a remarkable feat at the 2026 Black Reel Awards, securing a record-breaking 14 awards, including Outstanding Film, Director, and Screenplay. The awards ceremony, held on Monday, showcased an impressive range of talent and cinematic excellence.
Ryan Coogler, the film’s director, tied with Gina Prince-Bythewood for the most directing Bolts and became one of the few individuals—alongside Jordan Peele (Get Out) and Cord Jefferson (American Fiction)—to win for producing, writing, and directing the same film. The acting categories saw a sweep from Michael B. Jordan (Lead), Wunmi Mosaku (Supporting), and Miles Caton (Breakthrough), marking the first time such a sweep has occurred since the categories were restructured. Notably, Jordan became the third individual to win two Bolts for Lead Actor, following the legacies of Denzel Washington, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and the late Chadwick Boseman.
The 14 wins for Sinners surpassed the previous record of 10, set by Black Panther at the 19th Black Reel Awards in 2019. Autumn Durald Arkapaw made history as the first woman to win Outstanding Cinematography, while Hannah Beachler achieved her third win for Outstanding Production Design. Additionally, Ludwig Göransson became the first recipient to win both Outstanding Score and Outstanding Original Song (“I Lied to You”) in a single year. This award for original song was shared with Caton, who performed it, bringing his total wins to two.
Two other films also garnered multiple awards during the event. Geeta Gandbhir received recognition for Outstanding Documentary with The Perfect Neighbor and took home the award for Outstanding Short Film for The Devil Is Busy. Likewise, R.T. Thorne won Outstanding Independent Film and Emerging Director for 40 Acres, also marking a historic achievement at the Black Reel Awards.
In an impressive accolade, Zoe Saldaña, star of Avatar: Fire & Ash, became the first woman to win two career Bolts for Outstanding Voice Performance. Paul Tazewell joined Black Panther‘s Ruth E. Carter as one of the only multiple winners in Costume Design.
