Shark Sighting Leads to Water Closure in Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Portions of Huntington Beach are under a 48-hour water closure following a sighting of a great white shark exhibiting aggressive behavior. The decision comes after lifeguards observed the shark, estimated to be between 9 and 10 feet long, feeding on a sea lion carcass at Sunset Beach on Wednesday morning.

The closure, which extends one mile in both directions from North Pacific Avenue and 12th Street, was initiated around 10 a.m. City officials highlighted the heightened risk associated with sharks actively feeding, stating, "In addition to the inherent danger posed by a great white shark in the area, the risk increases when they are actively feeding on large food sources."

This incident is not isolated; just last week, a surfing competition was temporarily halted due to a similar shark sighting in the area. The local community remains vigilant as officials monitor the situation to ensure public safety.
