Police Respond to Attempted Suicide Incident in East Los Angeles
Early Wednesday morning, police responded to reports of an attempted suicide in East Los Angeles. Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of South Downey Road at approximately 1:32 a.m.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), the situation unfolded when they received a call from a man expressing intentions to harm himself. During the call, sounds of gunfire were reported. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies heard additional shots coming from the residence, leading to a deputy-involved shooting.
Fortunately, no deputies sustained injuries during the incident. However, one individual was transported to a medical facility, and their current condition remains unknown.
This event raises further concerns about mental health crises and the challenges law enforcement faces in such tense situations.
