Shonda Rhimes Hints at a New Spin-Off in the Bridgerton Universe
Shonda Rhimes Teases Future Storylines for the Bridgerton Universe
Shonda Rhimes has hinted at exciting potential developments in the Bridgerton universe, particularly involving the character of Violet Bridgerton. During a recent episode of Craig Melvin’s podcast, Rhimes suggested that the matriarch, portrayed by Ruth Gemmell, could be central to future storytelling.
“I’ve always said that I thought if we were going to do something like that, Violet would be a great person to tell the story about,” Rhimes noted, signaling optimism for exploring Violet’s narrative further.
Violet Bridgerton plays a pivotal role across all four seasons, acting as the mother to the Bridgerton children. Following a dramatic romance established in the first half of Season 4, her relationship with Lord Anderson, played by Daniel Francis, remains complex. The latest episodes see Violet excited about her engagement to Lord Anderson, who appears enamored with her. However, her plans to share this news with her family are abruptly overshadowed by the tragic death of John Stirling, portrayed by Victor Alli. The emotional toll leaves Violet grappling with her own happiness as her daughters, particularly Francesca, face turmoil.
Bridgerton, which recently released the second part of its fourth season, has previously enjoyed success with spin-offs, including Queen Charlotte. This series, which also featured Violet, focused on the rise of the Bridgerton queen, portrayed by Golda Rosheuvel and India Amarteifio, and was well-received during its run in 2023.
The possibility of a Violet-centric spin-off comes in the wake of comments from executive producer Tom Verica during the Bridgerton Season 4 premiere in Paris. Verica expressed interest in exploring additional narratives within the Bridgerton world, reflecting on the successful reception of Queen Charlotte. “So we are in talks of some other projects and hopefully, something, some news, something will be coming out at some point. Hopefully,” he remarked.
With Bridgerton‘s fourth season now airing and a fifth season confirmed, excitement continues to build among fans. Showrunner Jess Brownell recently indicated that she is aware of the subjects for both the fifth and sixth seasons, though no premiere date has been announced yet.
