Sheinelle Jones Honors Hospice Workers on Emotional Day
Television personality Sheinelle Jones shared an emotional tribute to the hospice workers who cared for her late husband, Uche Ojeh, during an episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. This heartfelt moment coincided with Ojeh’s birthday, the first since his passing in May 2025 due to glioblastoma brain cancer.
Ojeh was just 45 years old at the time of his death. Following his passing, Jones had taken an extended leave from the Today show, returning in September 2025. On February 4, she gathered the hospice staff from Hudson Valley Hospice to express her gratitude for their compassionate care during her husband’s final days.
In the segment, Jones reflected on how the hospice team became a source of support for her family. “By the time we got to the end, we almost had this quiet little tribe of folks we felt were rooting for us,” she shared. “Things happened so fast in the end that I just haven’t had a chance to say thank you.”

Jones emotionally expressed her admiration for the healthcare staff, stating, “Honestly, the only reason I even have the strength to talk about it is because I believe they are heroes.” She praised their compassionate approach, recalling their motto: “You’re not here to die. You’re here to live, and we’re gonna give you the best days that you have left.”
In a gesture of gratitude, Jones surprised the five nurses with all-expenses-paid vacations to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for two, a gift reflecting her appreciation for their support during a trying time.
As her co-host Jenna Bush Hager remarked, “Can you think of a better gift for Uche than giving to them?" Jones echoed the sentiment, envisioning her late husband celebrating the gesture. “I literally picture Uche up there like… We love you guys so much. And the fact that this just happened to be on his birthday, there you go. His birthday gift to you guys.”
Earlier in the broadcast, Jones candidly discussed her ongoing struggle with grief, particularly regarding Ojeh’s first birthday since his passing. “I think I’ve underestimated how tough this one would be,” she reflected, likening it to the more public holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas, which come with community support.
Jones also addressed the emotional backdrop of her week, as her co-worker Savannah Guthrie remains absent from the show due to the search for her missing mother. “Talk about holding two things,” she remarked, expressing the weight of anchoring the news while grappling with personal loss.
“We’re navigating a difficult time,” Jones concluded, emphasizing the intertwined nature of joy and sorrow in her life.
