Shay Mitchell Gets Ready for Her Role in the ‘Baywatch’ Sequel Series
Shay Mitchell Joins Cast of Upcoming Fox ‘Baywatch’ Sequel Series
Shay Mitchell, known for her role in Pretty Little Liars, has been cast in Fox’s upcoming Baywatch sequel series, set to debut in the network’s 2026-2027 season.
Mitchell will portray Trina, a former lawyer who has left a prestigious law firm to dedicate herself fully to lifeguarding. As the series’ most astute character, Trina balances her passion for the role with moments of self-doubt, often second-guessing her decisions despite her intelligence.
Joining Mitchell in the cast are previously announced lead Stephen Amell and a diverse ensemble that includes Jessica Belkin as Charlie Vale, Hassie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, and Brooks Nader as Selene, the fierce captain of the lifeguards at Zuma Beach. David Chokachi will return to reprise his role as Cody Madison, who now manages The Shoreline, a central gathering spot for the characters.
In this new rendition of Baywatch, Hobie Buchannon (Amell), the original series’ wild child, has stepped up as a Baywatch captain, following in his father Mitch’s (originally played by David Hasselhoff) footsteps. The narrative takes a turn when Charlie, the daughter Hobie never knew he had, arrives on his doorstep, eager to continue the Buchannon legacy as a lifeguard.
Fox promises that the reboot will deliver high-stakes rescues, intricate relationships, and the beachside heroics that characterized the original series, all while featuring a fresh cast in the iconic red swimsuits and contemporary storylines that reflect modern challenges.
The new Baywatch received a 12-episode straight-to-series order from Fox in September, following its development since winter 2024. Filming is expected to commence this spring at Venice Beach and the Fox Studio Lot in Century City.
Produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, the series will be led by showrunner and executive producer Matt Nix, alongside a production team that includes McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz. McG is also set to direct the series premiere. Fox Entertainment Global holds the domestic distribution rights, while Fremantle is responsible for international sales.
Mitchell is represented by Linden Entertainment, WME, and Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks.
