Separate Shootings Being Investigated in Westmont
A man was shot and killed by police officers with the Los Angeles Police Department early Friday morning, just half a mile from another incident that investigators believe is connected.
At approximately 1 a.m., officers approached an armed man at the intersection of West 115th Street and South Vermont Avenue, suspecting his involvement in a prior shooting in the area. During the interaction, an officer-involved shooting occurred, resulting in the man, believed to be in his 40s, being struck by gunfire. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries.
Prior to this incident, around 12:30 a.m., LAPD officers discovered another man with gunshot wounds at a gas station located near the same intersection. That victim, also thought to be in his 40s, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
LAPD officials have indicated that the shooting of the man by officers may be linked to the earlier incident at the gas station, although the details surrounding the events leading up to the shooting remain unclear. Investigators have not been able to access surveillance footage to further clarify the circumstances.
