Worker Injured After Semi-Truck Collides With Utility Vehicle in Redondo Beach
LOS ANGELES – A worker in a cherry picker sustained serious injuries Tuesday afternoon when a semi-truck struck his utility vehicle, causing him to fall to the ground, authorities reported.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Prospect Avenue near Diamond Street in Redondo Beach. The worker was elevated to service lines for Spectrum at the time of the collision, which caused significant damage to the bucket and resulted in the worker hitting the pavement.
According to police, the impact resulted in a severe concussion and possible broken bones for the injured worker. A bystander’s photo captured the scene, showing first responders arriving to assist. Neighbors expressed their initial fears that the man may not have survived the accident.
Traffic was severely disrupted as authorities closed nearby intersections for several hours following the crash, creating significant delays during the evening commute. One local resident reported that it took 30 to 45 minutes to travel only a few blocks, prompting some residents to opt for walking home.
The truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities before completing a delivery approximately half a mile away. The injured worker was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive.
As of now, it remains unclear whether any charges will be filed in relation to the incident.
