Selma Blair Talks About the Skin-Care Product She Co-Created and Her Hopes for Loved Ones Facing MS
Selma Blair Reflects on Health and Skincare Journey
Selma Blair has emerged with renewed strength following her struggles with health and skincare. Recently, she expressed optimism about her condition, stating, “I am relapse-free right now and I’m doing really well,” in regards to her battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Alongside her health updates, Blair’s skin, previously marred by acne and extreme sensitivity, has also notably improved, largely attributed to a new product she developed in collaboration with ESK—dubbed Ultimate A Gold, priced at $100.
In her collaboration with Dr. Ginni Mansberg, Blair was able to articulate her skincare needs, resulting in a product that met her high expectations. “I was really excited," Blair noted, emphasizing the importance of the partnership during a transformative stage in her life, particularly as she navigates perimenopause.
Blair’s skincare journey has been fraught with challenges. “I tried so many products,” she recounted, highlighting a particularly difficult period before becoming a mother when her skin was extremely reactive. She described her struggle with cystic acne and how traditional treatments exacerbated her condition. “It was a mess,” she admitted, reflecting on the intense changes she faced during that time.
Initially hesitant to explore new products due to previous negative experiences, Blair found success with ESK’s Calming Cleanse, which played a pivotal role in stabilizing her skin. “This was years ago, but even that first night, the tightness and the burning started to abate,” she recalled.
When discussing the formulation of Ultimate A Gold, Blair stressed her priorities in skincare. “I wanted to start concentrating on my aging and my hyperpigmentation," she shared, alongside her desire for the product to promote cellular renewal and strengthen the skin barrier.
Dr. Mansberg echoed these sentiments, describing the product’s multifunctional capabilities: “Can we build collagen, get rid of pigmentation, help with skin cell renewal, and rebuild the skin barrier all in a single product?” The outcome has exceeded expectations, with Blair noting she has begun to receive compliments on her complexion, stating, “This is the best skincare that I’ve ever used for me.”
While navigating her skincare routine, Blair remains grounded in her personal journey. She has learned the importance of sun protection and proper nutrition, mentioning, “I’m learning to eat in the morning,” signifying her commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
Yet, despite her progress, Blair continues to grapple with the fatigue associated with her MS. “I think social life really does suffer,” she confessed, elaborating on the challenges she faces when cancelling plans or needing quiet time. Her experience speaks to a broader issue of understanding those who live with chronic illness. “I wish people could understand it’s not personal,” she explained. “When someone feels like the dog’s dinner and you have nothing left, you have to go to bed.”
In closing, Blair emphasized that while her healing journey has been non-linear and complex, it ultimately leads to a better understanding of herself. “It’s still me, even though I’m well,” she affirmed, embodying resilience and hope for the future amid her challenges.
