Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi Makes Directorial Debut with Doe
Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi is currently in production in Los Angeles on Doe, marking his first venture as a feature director. In this film, he also stars in the title role, joined by a cast that includes Mark Webber (Flesh and Blood), Leah McNamara (Normal People), Brandon Scott (Dead to Me), and Brandon Perea (Nope).
Written by Mescudi, Doe delves into themes of addiction and survival. It tells the story of a man navigating the streets of Hollywood over a tumultuous 24-hour period, intertwining encounters that draw him in and out of the grips of his compulsion.
The film will feature original music by Kid Cudi, who is also serving as an executive producer alongside Karina Manashil under their Mad Solar production banner. Additional producers include Webber, Anthony Baldino, and Ryan Lacen.
A Grammy-winning artist and actor, Mescudi recently released his eleventh studio album, Free. He brings his extensive experience in filmmaking to Doe, having previously directed several of his own music videos and collaborated with Kenya Barris on Entergalactic, an Emmy-winning Netflix special that accompanies his album of the same name. As an actor, Mescudi has appeared in Ti West’s horror trilogy (X, Pearl, MaXXXine), Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, and the acclaimed independent films Meadowland and James White. He has also lent his voice to Young Love, a series by Matthew A. Cherry for Max, and featured in We Are Who We Are, Westworld, and How to Make It in America on HBO.
In addition, Mescudi is the focus of the Amazon documentary A Man Named Scott. He voices a lead character in Jeron Braxton’s upcoming animated feature Slime and is also producing the project, creating an original soundtrack and score for it. Recently, Mad Solar completed production on God Backwards, directed by Adam Mortimer, in which Mescudi stars alongside Jessica Rothe.
The cast is represented by various agencies, with Webber working with Nathan Culliver Management and Atlas Artists, while McNamara is represented by The Artists Partnership and Luber Roklin Entertainment. Scott is represented by Innovative Artists, Sweeney Entertainment, and Felker Toczek Suddleson, with Perea represented by CAA and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
