Scott Brothers Lead Corona del Mar to Exciting Victory Against Los Alamitos
Scott Brothers Shine in Dramatic Finish as Corona del Mar Tops Los Alamitos
In a thrilling showdown, the Scott brothers—Nolan and Maxwell—led Corona del Mar to a narrow 78-77 victory over Los Alamitos on Monday night. The game, featuring two of Orange County’s top public school basketball teams, kept fans on the edge of their seats as both squads exchanged leads throughout the contest.
With just 11.2 seconds remaining and Corona del Mar down by one point, Coach Jason Simco orchestrated a final play targeting Nolan Scott, a sophomore linebacker for the football team. This marked a pivotal moment for Simco, who had not secured a victory against Los Alamitos in his five seasons as head coach. As the play unfolded, Maxwell set a crucial screen, allowing Luke Mirhashemi to find Nolan wide open under the basket for an easy layup with only 4.3 seconds left, clinching the victory.
Maxwell Scott had a standout performance, contributing 35 points to the win. The brothers, who have a long history of playing together dating back to their days in flag football, displayed a strong synergy on the court. Maxwell reflected on their partnership, stating, “It’s fun to play with him.”
Despite the loss, Los Alamitos sophomore Isaiah Williamson delivered an impressive performance, scoring 26 points. Coach Simco praised Williamson’s efforts, asserting, “I think he was amazing. He’s going to be something else.” This defeat dropped Los Alamitos’ record to 8-7 and marked their first league loss at 0-1.
In addition to the Scott brothers’ heroics, Oliver Nakra also made a significant contribution for Corona del Mar with 19 points. As both teams move forward in the season, this tightly contested match will surely be remembered as one of the highlights of the basketball year.
