Saturday Night Live Moves to Canada’s Crave Streaming Service
Starting this fall, Saturday Night Live will begin airing on a new platform in Canada.
The popular streaming service Heated Rivalry on Crave will host episodes of SNL a day after their U.S. release. Additionally, the show will be simulcast live on the linear network CTV.
Upcoming episodes from the 52nd season, which is set to begin in a few months, will become part of Crave’s Saturday Night Live Collection on the Bell Media-owned platform.
Previously, the renowned variety show aired on Global TV in Canada. This change comes shortly after Bell Media secured the rights to the new Saturday Night Live UK, which premiered last month and also airs on Peacock in the U.S.
According to Bell Media, SNL ranks as the most-watched unscripted series among adults aged 18 to 49 in Canada. Despite its American roots, the show has a significant Canadian history. Creator Lorne Michaels hails from Toronto, and iconic Canadian figures like Dan Aykroyd and Mike Myers have made appearances. Recently, Connor Storrie, known for his role in the hit series Heated Rivalry, hosted SNL. A French-Canadian version, SNL Québec, aired on Télé-Québec during the last decade.
“Crave and CTV are proud to be the new home of Saturday Night Live in Canada,” stated Justin Stockman, VP of Global Content at Bell Media. “A proven hit for over 50 years, the series has always been at the forefront of pop culture, setting the tone for modern humor. We look forward to enjoying the new season alongside viewers on Crave and CTV.”
Sarah Weaver, Director of Content, Acquisitions & Sales for Bell Media, negotiated the distribution deal with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution.
