Car Fire Displaces Residents in San Bernardino
A car fire erupted early Sunday morning in San Bernardino, spreading to a carport and an adjacent apartment building and displacing over a dozen residents.
The fire was reported around 7:30 a.m. in the 900 block of North Mountain View Avenue. Firefighters found several vehicles engulfed in flames, which quickly spread to the carport and the attached two-story apartment.
Fire crews brought the blaze under control within approximately 50 minutes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the incident resulted in the destruction of five vehicles and one apartment, with four additional apartments sustaining damage. A total of 18 residents were displaced due to the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The San Bernardino County Fire Department noted that several smoke detectors were sounding upon firefighters’ arrival, aiding in a successful evacuation of the residents. They emphasized the importance of checking smoke detector batteries, especially after the recent time change, and urged residents to ensure detectors are installed in every bedroom and on each floor of their homes.
Just after 7:30 a.m., the San Bernardino County Fire Department dispatched units to respond to the vehicle fire, which threatened nearby structures.
