In September, during an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Carpenter discussed drawing inspiration from a “newer heartbreak experience” for her seventh studio album.
Reflecting on her growth, she remarked, “I think I came out of a sad situation, a lot less bitter than I intended or expected to. With a little bit more of the like, you know what? There’s two people involved, and this is part of growing up.”

Carpenter characterized the music as reflective of a period in her life when there isn’t much time for sorrow.
She emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, saying, “You kind of just got to get back out there… if you’re staying inside and you’re thinking about how everything’s going wrong, everything’s going to go wrong and you’re going to be inside,” drawing attention to the need to realize that one is not “damaged” despite past hurt.
