Saban Films Brings Houston Bone’s Horror Film ‘Son of Sara: Volume 1’ to U.S. Audiences
New Acquisition: Saban Films Secures U.S. Rights to ‘Son of Sara: Volume 1’
Saban Films has acquired the U.S. distribution rights for “Son of Sara: Volume 1,” a horror film directed by Canadian filmmaker Houston Bone. The story centers on a troubled pregnant woman whose attendance at a dinner party spirals into a horrifying and violent nightmare.
The deal was brokered by New York-based Visit Films, which will continue to handle sales for the film at the upcoming European Film Market next month.
Starring Chloe Van Landschoot, known for her work in “Lune” and “From,” the film also features Tymika Tafari (“Settle Down”), Garrett Hnatiuk (“Father’s Day”), and Jane Moffat (“Fahrenheit 451”).
“Son of Sara: Volume 1” premiered at the Blood in the Snow Festival in Toronto in November 2025, where Van Landschoot earned the award for Best Lead Performance in a Feature Film.
Houston Bone first gained recognition for the Canadian Screen Award-nominated web series “Teenagers,” which has garnered over 20 million views on YouTube since its release from 2014 to 2017. He made his feature film directorial debut with “I Don’t Know Who You Are,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023 and was released theatrically in North America the following year. In addition to his feature work, Bone’s short films, “Ghost” (2020) and “Spaghetti” (2023), also found success in film festivals.
Reflecting on the film’s acquisition by Saban Films, Bone expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “After gagging Toronto at Blood in the Snow this past winter, we are excited to be working with Saban to bring our grisly horror movie, and our new little monster, to audiences across the United States.” He emphasized the dedication involved in the project, noting, “This film has been a passion project for all of us since we shot it back in October 2023. Real blood, sweat, and tears went into bringing ‘Son of Sara: Volume 1’ to the screen. We are humbled and thrilled by the response from film festival audiences so far. It is a dream come true to be sharing this film at this scale internationally.”
“Son of Sara: Volume 1” is produced by Martine Brouillet under Bone’s Black Elephant Productions. The film received private financing from Grisly Productions LLC and financial support from Telefilm Canada.
