Ryan Coogler’s ‘X-Files’ Reboot Welcomes Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, and Others as Guest Stars
EXCLUSIVE: Hulu’s reboot of The X-Files, helmed by Ryan Coogler, has announced the casting of eight guest stars. Notable names include Amy Madigan, the recent Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress for Weapons, alongside Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D. Montgrand, and Sofia Grace Clifton.
The newly cast actors will join the lead duo, Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler, who portray two distinguished but contrasting FBI agents. Together, they explore a previously inactive division tasked with investigating unexplained phenomena.
Coogler, who recently secured an Oscar for his original screenplay for Sinners, is responsible for writing and directing the pilot while serving as an executive producer for the Onyx Collective Studio and 20th Television production. Original series creator Chris Carter will also serve as an executive producer for the reboot. Jennifer Yale is on board as the showrunner and executive producer, with Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler also taking on executive producer roles alongside Proximity Media’s Simone Harris, a co-executive producer. Dezi Gallegos, Proximity Media’s director of development, will assist in overseeing the pilot, with Deadwyler and Patel contributing as co-executive producers.
Amy Madigan received significant acclaim for her role as Aunt Gladys in Weapons, which grossed $270 million globally. This marked her first Oscar nomination, having previously been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Twice in a Lifetime. Her extensive film credits include American Woman, Antlers, Pollock, and Field of Dreams. Madigan is also set to appear in the upcoming Apple film Sponsor, alongside Jason Segel and John C. Reilly. On television, she earned a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination for her work in the telefilm Roe vs. Wade, with additional roles in Fringe, Grey’s Anatomy, and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. She has recently completed filming the Amblin/Netflix limited series All the Sinners Bleed.
Steve Buscemi, an Emmy winner for Park Bench With Steve Buscemi, is recognized for his portrayal of Nucky Thompson on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. He recently starred in season two of Netflix’s Wednesday and will appear alongside John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell in Martin McDonagh’s upcoming feature film, Wild Horses Nine.
Ben Foster, an Emmy nominee, recently appeared opposite Sydney Sweeney in the boxing film Christy and is featured in IFC’s film Motor City, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. His notable filmography includes Hell or High Water and Lone Survivor.
Devery Jacobs gained recognition on the Emmy-nominated FX comedy series Reservation Dogs, earning two Critics Choice Award nominations and a Gotham Award nod. She has also been involved in writing and directing for the series, in addition to producing her feature film debut Backspot and appearing in the Disney+/Marvel series Echo.

Lochlyn Munro will reprise his role in the upcoming Paramount/Miramax comedy Scary Movie, set for release on June 6. He is known for his recent television appearances in Peacemaker and Riverdale, along with roles in films like Totally Killer and The Predator.

Tantoo Cardinal boasts an impressive resume with over 130 film and television projects spanning 50 years, including Dances with Wolves and Killers of the Flower Moon. Her television credits include Stumptown and Avatar: The Last Airbender, and she has a strong presence in numerous film productions.

Joel D. Montgrand recently appeared in HBO’s True Detective: Night Country and has held roles in Acting Good and Avatar: The Last Airbender. His performance in the film Beans earned critical praise.

Sofia Grace Clifton is recognized for her work in the ten-part documentary series People of the West and recurring roles in The Muppets Mayhem and other projects. She continues to build her presence in the industry through varied performances.
