Robert Downey Jr. and Timothée Chalamet Hope to Bring “Dunesday” to Life
The upcoming cinematic showdown on December 18 has been dubbed Dunesday by actors Robert Downey Jr. and Timothée Chalamet. This pair of blockbusters includes Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday.
The actors made their remarks during a special screening of Chalamet’s A24 film, Marty Supreme, in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Downey Jr. humorously suggested to the audience, “We both have films opening on December 18, and we decided to coin it … We’re thinking Dunesday.” The audience responded with laughter, prompting Downey Jr. to add, “We’ll see if we’re still friends by then.”

The notion behind Dunesday is that the two films could bolster each other’s box office performance, leading to a mutually beneficial outcome.
A successful parallel can be drawn to 2023’s releases of Barbie and Oppenheimer, which collectively grossed nearly $2.5 billion worldwide and sparked the viral Barbenheimer phenomenon.
Since then, several double-releases have aimed to replicate this success, though with varying degrees of achievement. Notably, Glicked attempted to merge the genres of Wicked and Gladiator II.
The Russo brothers’ last entry in the Avengers franchise, Endgame, remains the second-highest-grossing film of all time, earning $2.8 billion globally, while Dune: Part Two secured $715 million worldwide.
