Rob Schneider Advocates for the Return of the Military Draft in the U.S.
Rob Schneider Advocates for Military Draft Reinstatement in Social Media Post
Actor Rob Schneider recently shared his thoughts on social media, suggesting that the United States should bring back the military draft system.
In his post, Schneider emphasized the need for a unified commitment to the nation, stating, “We must once again recommit ourselves to one nation under God, indivisible.” He proposed that all American citizens, upon turning 18, should be required to serve two years in the military, with the option to also engage in volunteer service domestically or abroad.
Schneider highlighted the value of American citizenship, describing the associated freedoms and opportunities as “the envy of the world,” while asserting that these privileges come at a cost. “By protecting and preserving these Freedoms, young people, regardless of race, creed or religion will be united in service to their country and just as importantly, to each other,” he wrote. He pointed out that many countries mandate military service for their youth, noting that the U.S. had similar requirements in the past.
The actor further elaborated on the potential societal benefits of a reinstated draft, suggesting it would provide rigorous physical training that could benefit young people throughout their lives. Schneider argued this initiative would ensure a standing army ready to respond to both national defense and domestic emergencies, such as natural disasters.
The last military draft in the United States ended in 1973, although numerous countries, including Denmark and South Korea, still maintain conscription systems. In South Korea, for example, the popular K-Pop group BTS paused their careers to fulfill their mandatory military service, which they completed in June 2025.
