HBO and BBC Announce Premiere Dates for Richard Gadd’s ‘Half Man’
Buzz is growing around Richard Gadd’s upcoming project, as HBO and the BBC have officially revealed the premiere dates and artwork for the highly anticipated series, Half Man. The show, Gadd’s first since the acclaimed Baby Reindeer, is scheduled to debut on April 23 on HBO and April 24 on the BBC, with both networks releasing episodes weekly.
Half Man follows the story of Ruben, played by Gadd, and his childhood friend Niall, portrayed by Jamie Bell. After spending an inseparable youth together, Ruben reappears at Niall’s wedding three decades later, displaying erratic behavior that raises concerns among those around him. The narrative unfolds through a series of flashbacks, revealing pivotal moments from their past, spanning from the 1980s to the present day, particularly leading up to a shocking explosion of violence.
The anticipation for Gadd’s new work is palpable, especially following the breakout success of his previous project, Baby Reindeer.
In the series, young Niall and Ruben are portrayed by Mitchell Robertson and Stuart Campbell, respectively. Neve McIntosh takes on the role of Niall’s mother, Lori, while Marianne McIvor plays Ruben’s mother, Maura. The cast is further complemented by a diverse lineup, including Charlie De Melo, Bilal Hasna, Julie Cullen, Amy Manson, and several others.
Gadd serves as the creator, writer, and executive producer of Half Man, with Sophie Gardiner and Anna O’Malley also in executive producer roles. Directed by Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck, the series is produced by Mam Tor Productions, in association with Thistledown Pictures, for BBC iPlayer, BBC One, BBC Scotland, and HBO. International distribution outside of BBC and HBO rights is managed by Banijay Rights, and the project is supported by Screen Scotland.
