Stephen Hibbert, Actor Known for Iconic Roles, Dies at 68
Stephen Hibbert, best recognized for his role as The Gimp in Pulp Fiction, has passed away at the age of 68. His family confirmed that he died of a heart attack on Monday in Denver.
In a statement to TMZ, his family expressed their sorrow, saying, “Our father, Stephen Hibbert, passed away unexpectedly this week.” They added, “His life was full of love and dedication to the arts and his family. He will be dearly missed by many.”
Hibbert was born in Fleetwood, England, and began his career as a writer for Late Night with David Letterman from 1984 to 1986. He later contributed to various popular animated series, including Darkwing Duck, Animaniacs, Mad TV, and Boy Meets World.
In 1994, Hibbert co-wrote It’s Pat: The Movie with his then-wife Julia Sweeney, who created the androgynous character on Saturday Night Live.
Beyond writing, Hibbert was also a prominent actor. His portrayal of The Gimp in Pulp Fiction remains one of his most memorable performances. He appeared in other films, such as Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and The Cat in the Hat (2003). Hibbert made his acting debut in a 1987 episode of Newhart and went on to guest star in series like Just Shoot Me!, Jericho, True Jackson VP, and Dr. Ken.
