Kiki Shepard, the renowned host of Showtime at the Apollo, passed away today at the age of 74 following a massive heart attack, as reported by TMZ citing her representative.
Shepard gained fame as the co-host of Showtime at the Apollo from 1987 to 2002, a flagship variety show filmed at the iconic Apollo Theatre in Harlem. During her tenure, she shared the stage with notable personalities such as Sinbad and Steve Harvey, who joined her for seven years.
In addition to her hosting career, Shepard was an accomplished actress, appearing in popular television shows including A Different World, Baywatch, and NYPD Blue, all while maintaining her role on Showtime.
More recently, she made guest appearances as herself on the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris and had a role in Grey’s Anatomy.
Shepard began her entertainment career with a small, uncredited role in the 1978 film The Wiz, portraying a citizen of the Emerald City.
