Record Number of Fans Sign Up for LA28 Olympics Tickets on Opening Day
Record Demand for LA28 Olympic Tickets on Opening Day
The LA28 organizing committee has reported unprecedented enthusiasm for the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games, with over 1.5 million individuals from 150 countries registering for tickets within the first 24 hours of the launch. This marked the busiest first day of ticket registration in Olympic history.
In a comparison with previous Olympic events, LA28 noted that the number of registrations surpassed the combined total from the initial sign-up days for Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024, and Milan Cortina 2026.
“The Olympic Games returning to Los Angeles in 2028 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to witness history,” said LA28 President Casey Wasserman. “The spirit of the LA28 Games is now officially ignited around the world, and fans have already shown up in record-breaking numbers just one day into our ticket registration. The journey is just beginning, and we look forward to an epic and unforgettable experience together in 2028.”
Following the start of registration at 7 a.m. PST on Wednesday, many fans experienced wait times exceeding an hour due to high demand, along with some technical difficulties in the virtual line. LA28 initiated ticket registration earlier than any previous organizing committee, with two and a half years remaining until the Games commence on July 14, 2028.
Fans have until March 18 to register for a chance to enter the lottery for ticket purchasing. All individuals registering by this deadline will have an equal opportunity in the lottery, with time slot assignments issued via email between March 31 and April 7.
Residents in Southern California, specifically in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura, and San Bernardino counties, as well as parts of Oklahoma City, will have exclusive access to a presale from April 2 to April 6. General public sales will begin on April 9 and continue until April 19.
The LA28 committee plans to offer 14 million tickets for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, aiming to surpass the previous record set by Paris 2024. Tickets for the 2028 Paralympics, the first held in Los Angeles, will become available in 2027, and individuals already registered for Olympic tickets will automatically be entered into the Paralympic draw without needing to re-register.
