Ramin Bahrani Takes the Helm for Netflix’s Texas Thriller ‘The Rancher’
Ramin Bahrani to Direct Thriller ‘The Rancher’ Following ‘Vegas: A Love Story’
Renowned filmmaker Ramin Bahrani is set to dive back into the thriller genre with his upcoming project, The Rancher, a Netflix film based on a screenplay by Melanie Toast. This follows the completion of his romantic thriller, Vegas: A Love Story, which stars Maika Monroe and Brandon Sklenar, alongside prominent names such as Paul Dano, Michael Shannon, and Judy Greer.
Bahrani, recognized for his Oscar-nominated works including The White Tiger, 99 Homes, and Chop Shop, will rewrite and direct The Rancher, with Toby Jaffe producing under RDV Films. This new project promises a female-led narrative set in rural Texas, though details about the plot remain undisclosed.
Before embarking on The Rancher, Bahrani will direct Last Meals, a drama centered on a chef operating within the confines of death row, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Boyd Holbrook.
Jaffe and Toast are reuniting for this film, having collaborated previously on the upcoming reboot of Cliffhanger, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. A spec sale of The Rancher was initially reported in May.
Bahrani’s Vegas: A Love Story has been described as his most commercially oriented film to date, produced by A/Vantage Pictures, Sugar Rush Pictures, and Noruz Films, with financing led by Juniper Productions. He is represented by WME, Untitled Entertainment, Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, and Ziffren Brittenham.
RDV Films, under Jaffe’s direction, has several upcoming projects, including the Netflix adaptation 6 Minutes to Freedom, based on the rescue of an American hostage in Panama by Delta Force in 1989, and New Regency’s espionage thriller Panic Officer, which is based on a spec by Ben Ripley.
