Queen Camilla Shines in a Vintage Diamond Tiara Cherished by Queen Elizabeth
Queen Camilla Pays Homage to Queen Elizabeth at State Banquet
Queen Camilla paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II by donning one of her favored tiaras during a state banquet at Windsor Castle on December 3. The event, attended by senior royals including Kate Middleton, Prince William, and King Charles, welcomed the German president and first lady during their visit to the United Kingdom.
Camilla made a striking entrance in The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, a dazzling piece with a history spanning 132 years, originally owned by Queen Mary. This diamond tiara, cherished by Queen Elizabeth, is emblematic of royal heritage and tradition.
Accompanying her tiara, Camilla wore a lace-covered turquoise gown designed by Fiona Clare, accentuating the dress’s green tones with a diamond and emerald necklace. Her elegant look was completed with drop diamond earrings and a brooch near her red Order of Germany sash.
The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, set in silver and gold, features intricate designs, including diamond-encrusted festoon and fleur-de-lis motifs. Although Camilla wore this iconic tiara earlier in 2023, it remains most closely associated with Queen Elizabeth, who first wore it in 1947 upon receiving it as a wedding gift from her grandmother, Queen Mary. Known to her as "Granny’s tiara," it was worn during significant occasions, including Elizabeth’s final foreign state visit in 2015 and the D-Day anniversary ceremony in 2014.
Furthermore, the tiara has connections to Princess Diana and Kate Middleton. Historically, Queen Mary, who possessed the piece at her wedding, later repurposed pearls from the tiara to create the beloved Lover’s Knot Tiara, valued at an estimated $135 million.
Queen Camilla’s choice of attire and accessories reflects not only her personal style but also a deep respect for the lineage and legacy of the British monarchy.
