Prince William Shares His Need for Kate During Challenging Solo Adventure
On March 5, Prince William and Kate Middleton each engaged in solo engagements, with the Prince of Wales visiting Cornwall and the Princess of Wales in Leicester. During his visit to a pasty shop in Cornwall, Prince William expressed a sense of longing for his wife, stating, “this is where I need my wife.”
While participating in a pasty-making activity at Gear Farm Pasty Shop, William humorously commented on his lack of culinary expertise. “It’s a lot harder than it looks!” he remarked, adding, “this is not my finest hour.” He further noted that Kate would excel in the activity, saying she “would be all over this.”
William’s pasty-making efforts were met with lightheartedness, as he remarked that his creation looked like “a funny little crab.” The event coincided with St. Piran’s Day, celebrating the patron saint of Cornwall.
During the visit, he also helped take phone orders, mishearing a customer named Josie and replying, “Juicy?” when she placed her order. Josie later expressed her delight upon realizing she was speaking to the prince. She had initially been concerned about her special order but was pleasantly surprised when the staff at Gear Farm offered her the order for free, thanking her for her good humor.
As William departed the bakery, Frances Combellack, a staff member, mentioned that they created personalized pasties for his family with initials and a crown. William shared his uncertainty about the pasties making it home intact, joking that he might consume them on the way.
“I suppose he’s going to go home and show Kate what he made,” Combellack noted. She added, “He was kind of like, ‘Oh, I wish my wife were here to help. She would be a lot better at it.’” Combellack concluded that despite his self-deprecating remarks, William did a commendable job, especially for a first attempt at such a challenging task.
