Prime Video Announces Adaptation of Chloe Walsh’s Popular BookTok Novel ‘Boys Of Tommen’ with International Boss Nicole Clemens Leading the Way
EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video is set to adapt the New York Times bestseller and BookTok sensation Boys of Tommen. The series will be produced by the creators of popular titles such as Twilight, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and One Day. The adaptation will cover the first two novels of Irish author Chloe Walsh’s six-book series, with Poppy Cogan of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder serving as the head writer.
Boys of Tommen unfolds a sweeping romance over six volumes. The streaming series aims to encompass the initial books, Binding 13 and Keeping 13. Production will be a collaborative effort between Drama Republic, Temple Hill, wiip, and Amazon MGM Studios, with filming expected to commence this year. The anticipated release on Prime Video could occur as early as 2027.
The narrative centers on the forbidden love story between Johnny Kavanagh, a star rugby player on the cusp of a professional career, and Shannon Lynch, a talented but introverted newcomer at the elite Tommen College in Ballylaggin, Ireland. Both characters grapple with personal secrets; Johnny faces a potentially career-ending injury, while Shannon endures a tumultuous home life.
Chloe Walsh, whose work achieved New York Times bestseller status and garnered substantial attention on BookTok, expressed her excitement about the adaptation. “The response from readers around the world has been overwhelming,” she said. “Knowing that everyone behind this production and book shares my passion for telling this story authentically means the world to me.”
Nicole Clemens, the VP of International Originals at Prime Video, sees Boys of Tommen as a significant project, following her recent commission of the original cop drama Dirty, crafted by acclaimed writer Matt Charman. This dual approach combines a well-known adaptation with an original narrative.
Since taking on her role last summer, Clemens has focused on expanding the company’s UK and Ireland content slate while exploring international shows with potential global appeal. “There are two main focuses,” she stated, emphasizing her desire to enhance the presence of UK talent and stories within the Prime Video portfolio. “I have a fantastic team… but this is where I’m really hands on, and I’m in pitches, in the creative readings, everything.”
As she surveys the landscape of potential projects, Clemens noted there are typically around 20 to 25 shows annually that can achieve international success. “It’s great when they go global,” she reflected, indicating her interest in connecting with local producers and talent.
Clemens also reassured producers about the decision-making process at Prime Video. “We want to make it as transparent as possible, so that people know what we want, what we’re looking for, and that we are moving quickly, and that we want to build the slate,” she said.
Returning to the content of Boys of Tommen, she remarked on its depth: “It’s just an unbelievable constellation of characters, but it’s also got such a specificity for place and the time. It talks about abuse, about bullying, about mental health, and it’s about love.” When asked about the potential for a franchise, Clemens noted, “Who knows how many we do, but hopefully, it goes for a long time.” She expressed optimism about the rich material available through the series.
Poppy Cogan leads the writing team for Boys of Tommen and shares executive producing duties with Chloe Walsh, along with Paul Lee and Hope Hartman from wiip, Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, and Annika Patten from Temple Hill, and Greg Brenman and Deena Butt from Drama Republic.
