Police Seek Suspect in $100,000 Jewelry Store Burglary in Woodland Hills
Burglary at Woodland Hills Jewelry Store Leads to $100,000 Loss
Woodland Hills, CA — A burglary early Saturday morning at Nafiseh Jewelry Store, which owner Touraj Nezafati describes as deeply alarming, resulted in the theft of an estimated $100,000 worth of merchandise. The incident, occurring around 2:40 a.m., was captured on surveillance video and marks the second burglary at the store within six months.
The break-in triggered alarms that alerted the owners on their phones. Surveillance footage shows the suspect rummaging through display cases for approximately six minutes, during which the Nezafati family monitored the situation live. At one point, they communicated with the burglar via their security system, urging him to leave and warning that police were en route.
Having owned the store for 30 years, the Nezafati family expressed deep concern about their safety and the impact of such incidents on their lives. “We’re scared, we’re tired, my parents are getting older, and it’s time for them to actually retire and enjoy their lives but they can’t because they are always worrying about the store,” Nezafati stated. “They won’t even let me come be here alone because they are always worried something will happen. You know, it’s just heartbreaking. The city wasn’t like this before. It was safer, but it has changed.”
After the burglary, family members rushed to the store but arrived to find that the burglar had already fled. Los Angeles police were already on the scene when they arrived.
In addition to the stolen items, which included jewelry, silver coins, and Persian silver plates, the burglar cut the rooftop camera wires, leaving no footage of his exit. Nezafati estimates that repairs to the roof will cost around $15,000, and the family is now considering relocating the store.
The Los Angeles Police Department is asking anyone with information about the burglary or the suspect to come forward.
