Fatal Plane Crash on Santa Catalina Island Claims Two Lives
A small plane crashed on Thursday on the south side of Santa Catalina Island, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The incident, reported around midday, occurred in a remote area off the Los Angeles County coast.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn confirmed the fatalities in a post on X, stating that both victims died at the scene. While officials are working to gather further details, the identities of those involved and the cause of the crash have not yet been disclosed.
“This is a tragedy, and my heart goes out to the loved ones of those who lost their lives,” Hahn expressed. She also commended the efforts of paramedics and Sheriff’s deputies who swiftly responded to the incident, noting their professionalism in managing the situation.
The aircraft went down near the Airport in the Sky, situated on a mountaintop approximately ten miles north of Avalon, located on the island’s southeast coast. It remains unclear whether the plane was in the process of taking off or landing on the airstrip with a 3,000-foot-long runway.
