Phillip Danault Moves from Kings to Canadiens in Draft Pick Deal
Phillip Danault Returns to Montreal in Trade with Kings
Phillip Danault is making a return to the Montreal Canadiens after the team acquired the veteran center from the Los Angeles Kings in a trade announced on Friday. This move comes just ahead of the NHL’s holiday roster freeze that began on Saturday.
As part of the trade, the Kings received a second-round draft pick, which the Canadiens had previously obtained from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Danault, 32, has been a topic of trade discussions in recent weeks. The assistant captain has struggled this season, recording no goals and just five assists in 30 games, and has been sidelined for the last four games due to illness.
Renowned for his two-way play, Danault joined the Kings in 2021, signing a six-year contract after six seasons with the Canadiens. His tenure in Montreal included a memorable run to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final, where the team ultimately fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
A native of Victoriaville, Quebec, Danault previously tallied 54 goals and 194 points in 360 games during his time with the Canadiens. He was selected in the first round of the 2011 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, where he spent his first two seasons before being traded to Montreal.
