Phil Rosenthal’s ‘Somebody Feed Phil’ Set to Premiere on YouTube in 2027 Through Exciting Global Partnership with Banijay
Phil Rosenthal Partners with Banijay to Expand Digital Reach
Phil Rosenthal, the Emmy-winning creator of Everybody Loves Raymond and host of the Emmy-nominated culinary travel series Somebody Feed Phil, has formally entered into a strategic partnership with Banijay Americas and Banijay Rights. This agreement establishes the companies as partners alongside Rosenthal’s production banner, Lucky Bastards, with a focus on expanding his brand within the digital landscape.
Under the terms of the agreement, new episodes of Somebody Feed Phil are scheduled to transition non-exclusively to a newly launched Phil Rosenthal World YouTube Channel in 2027, alongside a lineup of short-form content related to the show. This direction marks a significant departure for a Netflix series; historically, Netflix has absorbed productions from YouTube, like Cobra Kai. This partnership represents the unique case of a premium series choosing to embrace the YouTube platform.
For the foreseeable future, the previous eight seasons of Somebody Feed Phil will remain accessible on Netflix. However, the new deal positions YouTube as a central hub for Rosenthal, offering prospects for increased audience engagement and enhanced content control. Sources indicate that Rosenthal and Banijay are also assessing options to further expand the brand’s footprint across AVOD and FAST platforms.
Ben Samek, CEO of Banijay Americas, praised Rosenthal, stating, “He is one of the rare creators who consistently stays ahead of where the industry is going.” Samek expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Rosenthal, highlighting the collaboration as an opportunity to usher the brand into a new era. "YouTube represents a natural evolution and a place where audiences can engage with his voice and humor as we build a global digital home for Phil Rosenthal World,” he added.
Originally a six-episode PBS series titled I’ll Have What Phil’s Having, Somebody Feed Phil transitioned to Netflix and features Rosenthal exploring global cuisines and cultures. Since its debut in 2018, the show has garnered an international fanbase, celebrated for its humor and portrayal of cultural connections through food and travel.
Banijay Entertainment, founded in 2008, encompasses over 130 creative companies across 25 territories and produces approximately 16,000 hours of content and 3,000 live events annually. In 2025, it is projected to launch over 250 new non-scripted titles, more than 100 scripted shows, and around 30 formats, further solidifying its position within the entertainment industry.
Banijay oversees several prominent unscripted brands, including MasterChef, Big Brother, and Survivor, as well as acclaimed scripted series like Peaky Blinders and Black Mirror. Earlier this month, the company announced plans for a strategic merger with All3Media, creating a formidable global television production entity valued at approximately $8 billion.
Phil Rosenthal is represented by Heroes and Villains Entertainment, UTA, and Felker Toczek Suddleson.
