Peter Frampton is set to embark on a new musical chapter, announcing on March 17 that his first album of original music in 16 years, titled Carry the Light, will be released on May 15.
The upcoming album will showcase collaborations with several notable artists. The lead single, “Buried Treasure,” a tribute to Tom Petty, was released alongside the announcement.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Frampton expressed, “This record is a very special one for me. I got to write and produce it with my son Julian, as well as work with some wonderful friends along the way.”
Featured artists on the album include Sheryl Crow, who collaborates with Frampton on “Breaking the Mold,” and H.E.R., who joins him on guitar for “Islamorada.” Tom Morello appears on the track “Lions at the Gate,” described in a press release as a “protest song.”
Additional contributors to the album are Graham Nash on “I’m Sorry Elle,” Benmont Tench on “Buried Treasure,” and saxophonist Bill Evans, who plays on “Can You Take Me There” and “Tinderbox.”
Frampton’s last album, Thank You Mr. Churchill, was released in 2010 and has made significant chart appearances, including 14 entries on the Billboard 200. His renowned 1976 live album, Frampton Comes Alive, held the No. 1 spot for 10 weeks.
The new album marks Frampton’s first full-length release since his 2024 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He performed with Sheryl Crow during the induction ceremony, a night that also featured Tom Morello accepting an induction on behalf of Rage Against the Machine.
Frampton acknowledged Crow’s pivotal role in his nomination for the Hall of Fame, stating, “[Sheryl] stirred the pot big-time and made people aware — including some of the board members, I think. They thought I was already in.”
