Paul Simon Makes Special Appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ to Introduce Harry Styles
Music legend Paul Simon returned to the iconic stage of Saturday Night Live (SNL) last night, further cementing his reputation as one of the show’s most frequent musical guests. Having hosted the program four times and graced its musical lineup 13 times, Simon remains a beloved figure in the show’s history, recognized as its oldest musical guest.
In his latest appearance, Simon introduced Harry Styles for his second musical performance. Earlier in the night, Styles had been introduced by Ryan Gosling, who humorously crashed the segment, reminiscent of Styles’ own surprise involvement in Gosling’s Project Hail Mary episode.
Simon welcomed Styles before he performed “Coming Up Roses” from his album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally while seated at the piano.
Notably, Simon last appeared on SNL in 2018, and he played a significant role in SNL50: The Anniversary Special, where he performed “Homeward Bound” alongside Sabrina Carpenter.
Styles has often expressed his admiration for Simon’s profound influence on his music. He previously revealed that One Direction’s song “Walking in the Wind” pays homage to Simon’s acclaimed album Graceland. In a 2022 interview, Styles shared, “I’m a big Paul Simon fan and I think the inspiration behind it was Graceland, in which the verse was so conversational, informal and it’s like spoken word. It’s quite casual and I love that album.”
Reflecting on his formative years, Styles mentioned in 2015 that he grew up immersed in the sounds of Simon and Garfunkel. “Every time ‘Cecilia’ started, I’d be like, ‘I think I’ve heard this a hundred times today,’” he recalled.
Styles concluded the show with heartfelt thanks to both Simon and Gosling, underscoring the camaraderie among these musical icons.
