Patrick Schwarzenegger and Phoebe Dynevor Team Up in 20th Century’s Adaptation of Emily Henry’s Beach Read
EXCLUSIVE: Patrick Schwarzenegger is set to star alongside Phoebe Dynevor in Beach Read, an adaptation of the New York Times bestselling novel by Emily Henry, produced by 20th Century Studios.
Published in 2020, Beach Read follows January Andrews, a successful romance novelist grappling with grief and writer’s block following her father’s death. While preparing her father’s Michigan beach house for sale, she unexpectedly reconnects with Gus Everett, a former college rival. As both authors face creative hurdles, they agree to a summer writing challenge, swapping genres but pledging to avoid romance—though plans often change.
The search for the character of Gus was extensive, spanning several months. Initially considered a dark horse candidate, Schwarzenegger impressed filmmakers and studio executives with his audition tape and chemistry reading with Dynevor.

Yulin Kuang, co-writer of Netflix’s People We Meet on Vacation—another adaptation of Henry’s work—is directing the film from her own script. Neal H. Moritz is producing through Original Films, with Karina Rahardja serving as executive producer. Sarah Shepard and Catherine Hughes are overseeing the project for 20th Century Studios, while Clare Reeth leads the literary affairs team that secured the book’s rights.
This role continues Schwarzenegger’s recent success, following his casting opposite Margaret Qualley in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios romantic drama Love Of Your Life. Having outperformed numerous young actors for both roles, Schwarzenegger is emerging as a rising star in Hollywood.
Most recently, Schwarzenegger portrayed Saxon, the eldest Ratliff sibling, in the third season of HBO’s Emmy-winning series The White Lotus. This role garnered him some of the best reviews of his career and positions him as a strong contender in this year’s Emmy race as voting concludes.
His filmography also includes roles as Tim Tebow in Ryan Murphy’s American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, appearances in HBO Max’s Emmy-nominated limited series The Staircase, Prime Video’s The Terminal List, and the spinoff Gen V. Additionally, he starred in Netflix’s Moxie, directed by Amy Poehler, and has completed the sci-fi thriller Warning.
Schwarzenegger is represented by UTA, Entertainment 360, and attorney Patrick Knapp.
