Park Min-Kyu Makes His Vertical Drama Debut in FlareFlow’s ‘One Year Love’
Park Min-Kyu to Make Acting Debut in Upcoming Microdrama ‘One Year Love’
Park Min-Kyu, known for his role on Netflix’s reality series Single’s Inferno, is set to make his acting debut in the microdrama One Year Love. The series will premiere on April 9 on the COL International-owned vertical video app FlareFlow.
In One Year Love, Park stars alongside Nicole Lee from Amoeba and Regina Tan. The production, filmed in Singapore, explores a high-stakes romance built around a marriage of convenience between a Korean expatriate and a Singaporean workaholic. The plot thickens when the return of the protagonist’s former partner puts their arrangement to the test.
The microdrama industry has witnessed significant growth globally, with billions in revenue across markets in China and the United States. Countries throughout Asia are increasingly aiming to reduce reliance on foreign shows while fostering their own content and acting talent.
One Year Love stands out as a collaboration featuring regional talent tailored for an international audience. FlareFlow and its Singapore-based parent company, COL, are recognized leaders in cross-border vertical video production. Bryan Choo, CEO of TSL Group in Singapore, is fully financing the series.
For Park, this project marks a significant shift from his previous reality television experience. “When it comes to something like Netflix, we filmed almost 24 hours a day over about nine days straight," he noted. "In contrast, with the microdrama, the schedule allowed me to manage my energy better, which I appreciated.”
This production also represents Park’s first acting role, his debut in an overseas project, and his initial experience performing in English. “I had a lot to learn, but I gave it my all,” he remarked. “Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience, and I was happy because my colleagues supported me a lot.”
Park expressed enthusiasm for potential international opportunities stemming from the Singapore shoot. “I’d love to have more filming experiences abroad, not just in Korea,” he said.
FlareFlow has quickly become a prominent player in the vertical video market, boasting 33 million registered users across more than 200 countries. The platform has released around 5,200 series to date, with its leading title, Oops I Married My Bestie’s Brother, generating over 193 million views and $15 million in in-app revenue. COL, which is publicly listed in China, is actively pursuing international distribution agreements as the microdrama market continues to mature.
“Global demand for microdrama is growing, but the next wave will be driven by strong regional voices,” stated Timothy Oh, General Manager of COL Group International. “Our focus is on backing local storytelling and giving creators the confidence to compete on a global stage. One Year Love is a clear example of that, a Singapore-led story built for international audiences.”
