Paris Jackson Shares Her Relationship with Colman Domingo During ‘Michael’ Biopic Discussions: ‘Things Can Get Misunderstood’

Paris Jackson recently addressed her relationship with actor Colman Domingo, following tensions over the upcoming biopic about her father, Michael. Jackson had previously criticized Domingo’s comments regarding her and her brother’s involvement in the film.
At Vanity Fair’s A Night for Young Hollywood event this week, Jackson spoke with Entertainment Tonight about her recent interactions with Domingo. She revealed that he reached out to her via social media to clarify his earlier remarks, which she appreciated. “There’s lots of miscommunications, and things get twisted,” she stated.
The misunderstanding originated in September, when Jackson criticized Domingo for suggesting in People that she and her brother Prince Jackson had been “helpful” during the film’s production. She refuted this claim on Instagram, stating, “Don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had 0% involvement in lol that is so weird.” Jackson had reviewed an early draft of the script and provided feedback on aspects that felt “dishonest,” but expressed that her concerns were not resolved.
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Domingo explained that his comments about the Jackson siblings had been misinterpreted. He expressed hope that Jackson will eventually appreciate the tribute to her father. “I hope that she eventually loves the tribute that we made about her father,” he said.
The biopic, titled Michael, is scheduled to premiere in theaters on April 24. It features Jafaar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, in the lead role. During her interview with ET, Paris confirmed her communications with Domingo, who portrays her grandfather, Joe Jackson, in the film. She also extended well wishes for success and happiness to Domingo and her cousin.
Jackson expressed her aspirations for the biopic’s representation of her father’s legacy, emphasizing themes of “love and light.”
Her appearance at the Vanity Fair event coincided with the release of her new single, “zombies in love,” which dropped under Republic Records on March 13. Co-written with Linda Perry, the song reflects on past experiences with love and substance use. Jackson noted that more music is forthcoming later this year.
In January, Jackson celebrated six years of sobriety on Instagram. She also shared her engagement to producer Justin Long, expressing gratitude for their time together, stating, “doing life with you these last years has been an indescribable whirlwind and I couldn’t dream of anyone more perfect for me to do it all with.”
