Paramount Confirms Script Development for ‘Top Gun 3’ at CinemaCon
Paramount Pictures has officially announced the development of a sequel to the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. This news was revealed during the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday, where it was confirmed that a script is currently in the works. Tom Cruise is anticipated to return as Pete Mitchell, alongside producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Top Gun: Maverick stands as the highest-grossing film of Cruise’s career, amassing an impressive $1.49 billion at the box office. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won an Oscar for Best Sound.
The plot of Top Gun: Maverick follows Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as he returns to the renowned flight school to train a new generation of pilots for a critical mission. Miles Teller portrays Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of “Goose,” played by Anthony Edwards in the original 1986 film, who tragically dies during a training exercise.
Paramount CEO David Ellison has emphasized the significance of the previous installment, underscoring that a sequel is a key component of the studio’s future theatrical plans.
