Pamela Anderson Reflects on a Year Filled with Joyful Surprises in Movies and Love
Pamela Anderson Embraces Change Amid Career Resurgence
Pamela Anderson, known for her iconic roles and striking looks, revealed her recent transformation to redhead. “Sometimes I catch myself in the mirror and go, ‘Oh jeez. Who’s that?’” she shared, noting that even her mother commented on the adjustment, saying, “This is going to take some getting used to.”
The change is part of her preparation for an upcoming role in Michael Cera’s comedy, Love Is Not the Answer. Anderson remains flexible about her look, stating, “I’ll be blonde in no time or maybe a different color. Who knows?”
Reflecting on her career, Anderson, who describes her transformation as “another form of freedom,” has had a year full of surprises—from her acclaimed performance in The Last Showgirl to her unexpected romantic involvement with co-star Liam Neeson. “I’m making the choices in my career and the way I look,” said Anderson, a mother of two sons, Brandon and Dylan. “I’m in control of my own life.” Pondering her journey, she added, “Even sitting here, I’m thinking, has this really happened, or did I dream all of this?”
Since 2023, Anderson has worked to reclaim her narrative through her memoir, Love, Pamela, and the documentary Pamela, A Love Story. These projects sought to expose her desire to be recognized for who she truly is, rather than just her public persona. “I could watch a little bit of [the documentary], and then I’m in tears,” she confessed. “Some things you move on from.”
Her decision to go makeup-free during Paris Fashion Week in 2023 surprised many, including herself. “I remember thinking, ‘Nobody’s even going to notice’ — and people noticed.” The former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld approached her to express appreciation for her bold choice.
Anderson views these changes as part of “peeling back the layers” of her identity. “I just want to make sure that [young women] feel confident in who they are,” she explained.
She continues to be taken aback by the positive reception from fans. “People come to me with their daughters and say, ‘Thank you so much for doing this,’” she noted, appreciating the impact she seems to have had.
While Anderson’s past roles, particularly in Baywatch, solidified her as a pop culture icon, she acknowledges a deeper narrative underlying those characters. “There’s always been a vulnerability and a humanness… all those things that make you human.” When reflecting on her former self, she remarked, “That girl is dead. It feels like a lifetime ago.”
Her recent role in The Last Showgirl marked a pivotal moment, demonstrating her acting depth. Notably, director Gia Coppola discovered the script and gave it to her son after her former agent declined it on her behalf. “I’d never been offered a good script,” Anderson stated. “To feel that feeling of ‘I’m the only one that could do this’ — I had that.”
Soon after, she received nominations for a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Describing her journey, she admitted to feeling insecure in prestigious circles, stating, “I never really felt a part of those rooms.” This summer, she showcased her comedic talents in a revival of Casino Real, earning accolades from director Dustin Wills for her remarkable work ethic and humor.
Anderson also reflected on her romantic connection with Neeson, stating, “If you must know, Liam and I were romantically involved for a short while but only after we finished filming.” She recounted a memorable week spent together, filled with light-hearted moments, including Neeson chasing a bear away in his bathrobe.
Despite the media speculation about their relationship, she clarified, “I adore Liam, but we are better friends.” She emphasized that Neeson has been a supporter of her evolving career. “I’m sure we will always be in each other’s lives,” she added warmly.
Currently, Anderson is collaborating with her sons on a production company and plans to reboot the cult classic Barb Wire into a television series. “I’m really excited to take that back,” she shared, harkening it as a form of redemption.
Looking ahead, Anderson anticipates more roles that reflect her growth as an individual. Among them is her part in Rosebush Pruning, where she will portray a gray-haired matriarch. “Let’s just hope this is just the beginning,” she said, expressing enthusiasm for her revitalized passion for acting. “It’s a rebel move to be happy.”
