Palm Royale Wraps Up Its Journey After Two Seasons on Apple TV
EXCLUSIVE: The Apple TV series Palm Royale has officially concluded, following the cancellation of the Emmy-nominated dramedy after two seasons.
Palm Royale, created by Abe Sylvia, featured a prominent ensemble cast led by Kristen Wiig, alongside notable actors Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, and the iconic Carol Burnett.
The first season earned 11 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for Wiig, as well as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Burnett. The show ultimately secured an Emmy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. In its second season, Wiig received a nomination for the Annual Actor Awards, and the series was also nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Apple declined to comment regarding the cancellation.
Loosely adapted from Juliet McDaniel’s novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie, Palm Royale depicted the story of Maxine Simmons (Wiig) in 1969 as she sought to penetrate the elite circles of Palm Beach society. Armed with a striking wardrobe and sharp wit, Maxine grapples with the question of what one might sacrifice to attain a life of privilege.
In Season 2, following a scandalous public breakdown, Maxine finds herself ostracized from social circles. Drawing on her ingenuity and resilience, she endeavors to prove her worthiness in this high-stakes environment, ultimately uncovering hidden truths about the community, steeped in secrets and deception.
Carol Burnett
Though Palm Royale could have continued, its conclusion wrapped up the narrative effectively. The series finale featured a tribute to Burnett’s character, Norma Dellacorte, who delivered a heartfelt performance of “Something Good.”
Season 2 also included appearances from Claudia Ferri, Jason Canela, Jordan Bridges, James Urbaniak, Roberto Sanchez, Rick Cosnett, and Ryan Dorsey, and was further enriched by the introduction of guests such as John Stamos, Patti LuPone, Vicki Lawrence, and Matt Rogers.
Produced by Apple Studios, Palm Royale was written, executive produced, and showrun by Abe Sylvia for Aunt Sylvia’s Moving Picture Company. The series also featured executive production from Dern, Jayme Lemons for Jaywalker Pictures, Wiig, and Katie O’Connell Marsh, with additional contributions from Sharr White, Sheri Holman, Becky Mode, and Stephanie Laing.
