Oxnard Man Found Guilty in Double Murder Case
Oxnard Man Convicted of Double Murder in Separate Shooting Incidents
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. – A jury has found Kristian Fonseca, an Oxnard resident, guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder linked to two shooting incidents that resulted in two fatalities and multiple injuries.
Fonseca’s convictions stem from violent events that occurred in 2019 and 2020. The jury’s verdict included findings of special circumstances, such as multiple murders and intentional firearm discharge, which subjects Fonseca to a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.
The first incident took place on October 12, 2019, when Fonseca, along with two associates associated with a tagging crew from Santa Paula, approached a food truck on East Simpson Street in Ventura. After questioning a victim’s affiliation, Fonseca discharged a shotgun, causing life-threatening injuries to a man, leading to long-term medical complications.
The second shooting occurred on October 24, 2020, during a gathering in Santa Paula. Following a physical altercation with rival tagging crew members, Fonseca retrieved a firearm and opened fire, resulting in the deaths of Jose Estrada and Daniel Zuniga, as well as injuring another individual.
All special allegations presented during the trial were confirmed by the jury.
Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko commented on the serious nature of the charges and the jury’s findings regarding aggravating factors. He highlighted that the victims in the 2019 shooting were not gang members, despite the confrontation’s context.
Following the verdict, Fonseca will remain in custody as he awaits a formal sentencing hearing, where he will face the mandatory life sentence due to the jury’s confirmation of multiple murder circumstances.
