Over 60 Dogs Rescued from Hemet Fire Need Loving Homes
Urgent Need for Dog Adoptions Following Hemet House Fire
Dozens of dogs are in search of new homes following a rescue operation in Hemet, where over 60 dogs were removed from a house fire on Thursday. The incident occurred in an unincorporated area of Riverside County, prompting swift action from the Riverside County Department of Animal Services (RCDAS).
The Field Services team responded to the emergency by transporting the rescued dogs to the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus. Currently, the shelter is facing a critical situation, with more than 1,000 animals in its system, significantly exceeding its capacity.
“This type of large-scale rescue requires all of our teams to jump into action, and now we need the public’s help to give these dogs a home,” said Lesley Huennekens, RCDAS Field Commander.
The shelter is currently operating at 300% over its capacity for dogs, according to RCDAS officials. This sustained overcapacity situation has prompted an urgent call for adoptions.
In light of this crisis, all adoption fees at RCDAS shelters will be waived through the end of March. This initiative includes spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, vaccinations, and an engraved ID tag for adopters.
For those unable to adopt, RCDAS is offering fostering options to help these animals find temporary homes during this challenging time.
