Orange Lutheran Triumphs Over St. John Bosco with Brady Murrietta’s Stellar Performance
Orange Lutheran Prevails Over St. John Bosco in Nail-Biter
In a gripping contest on Thursday, No. 1-ranked Orange Lutheran avoided a three-game sweep against rival St. John Bosco with a hard-fought 5-4 victory. Texas-bound catcher Brady Murrietta delivered a standout performance, contributing significantly to the win.
Murrietta showcased his skills early in the game, starting with a double in the first inning. He then demonstrated defensive prowess by throwing out James Clark, who was attempting to steal second. Later, in the fifth inning, Murrietta drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, but the highlight of his day came in the sixth. Breaking a 3-3 tie, he launched a two-run homer off closer Jack Champlin, cementing a lead for the Lancers. Defensively, he tagged out a potential tying run at the plate later in the inning, underscoring his all-around impact.
Pro scouts were notably present to observe Orange Lutheran pitcher Connor Sides, who impressed with a fastball that reached 95 mph and struck out eight batters over five innings. Meanwhile, Champlin had a notable start, contributing a two-run triple in the first inning and maintaining a reputation for reliability despite facing a challenging lineup.
The rivalry on the field was intensified by Champlin’s antics following a previous game where he celebrated a victory over the Lancers, leading to heightened tensions. As a precaution, no handshakes took place after this game.
With this win, Orange Lutheran improved to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in the Trinity League, while No. 2 St. John Bosco moved to 11-3 and 5-1. The two teams may face off again next week at the Boras Classic.
