Orange Lutheran Celebrates Victory at National Baseball Tournament Championship in North Carolina
Orange Lutheran Clinches National High School Invitational Title
This past weekend, Orange Lutheran High School showcased a remarkable performance in the National High School Invitational, culminating in a championship victory. Despite having played only four games prior to the tournament—while many other teams had played ten or more—the Lancers demonstrated resilience and skill, winning four consecutive games to secure the title on Saturday in Cary, North Carolina.
Throughout the tournament, Orange Lutheran exhibited dramatic tenacity, needing walk-off hits to prevail in both the quarterfinals and semifinals. In the championship game, the Lancers defeated defending champions Venice, Florida, with a nail-biting final score of 7-6. In a tense bottom of the seventh inning, Venice threatened with two runners on base and two outs, but pitcher Anthony Tomminelli delivered a decisive strikeout to clinch the victory.
The Lancers made a strong start to the title game, with CJ Weinstein hitting a two-run triple in the first inning. Eric Zdunek contributed significantly with two hits and two RBIs, while Brady Murrietta added two hits of his own. The team now faces a brief celebration before gearing up for a critical three-game series against St. John Bosco next week in the Trinity League.
In other noteworthy matchups, Harvard-Westlake triumphed over Arizona Casteel with a score of 10-8, fueled by Jake Kim, who recorded a home run and a double to net three RBIs. Freshman Nate Englander also shone in this game with two hits and three RBIs. Meanwhile, Jacksonville’s Trinity Christian secured a 5-0 victory against St. John Bosco, with the Braves returning home boasting a 9-2 record as they prepare for their upcoming clash with Orange Lutheran.
In a solid defensive performance, Aquinas defeated Gloucester 4-0, led by Eli Martinez, who threw a shutout while striking out seven batters.
As the baseball season progresses, all eyes will be on Orange Lutheran as they aim to carry their momentum into the crucial series against St. John Bosco.
