One of Two Suspects Injured in Shooting Involving LAPD Officers in Downtown LA
Police Involved Shooting in Downtown Los Angeles
In a significant overnight incident, an allegedly armed man was shot by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers in downtown Los Angeles. The shooting occurred early Friday morning, around 3:30 a.m., near the intersection of 9th Street and Gladys Avenue.
According to investigators, LAPD officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Upon stopping the car, they discovered two suspects inside. In the course of attempting to take the suspects into custody, police witnesses a struggle during which the passenger was observed holding what appeared to be a weapon. Officers opened fire, striking the passenger in the stomach.
The injured suspect was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, while the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody without incident.
As a result of the shooting, several streets in the vicinity have been closed off, and the area remains an active crime scene.
The identities of the suspects involved have not yet been disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing.
