Omari Hardwick Teams Up with Gerard Butler and Hayley Atwell for New Film ‘Empire City’ as Production Begins in Australia
Omari Hardwick Joins Cast of Action-Thriller ‘Empire City’
Actor Omari Hardwick, known for his performances in Power and Army of the Dead, has been added to the cast of Empire City, an action-thriller currently filming in Melbourne, Australia. He will star alongside Gerard Butler and Hayley Atwell.
Empire City revolves around a hostage crisis that unfolds within New York’s Clybourn Building. Butler plays Rhett, a firefighter who, joined by his NYPD wife Dani (Atwell) and their squad, must navigate the dangerous situation to rescue the captives. Hardwick will portray Hawkins, the film’s antagonist.
The film’s cast also includes Mel Jarnson, who plays Hawkins’ right-hand operative, Leda. Butler’s character will be supported by squad members Tre Hale, Michael Beach, Dominic Bogart, Stephen Murphy, and Jack DiFalco.
Directed by Michael Matthews, known for Love and Monsters, Empire City is produced by Marc Butan, Gerard Butler, Alan Siegel, and Paul Currie. The screenplay is written by Brian Tucker and S. Craig Zahler. Filming is reportedly halfway completed.
This is a promising chapter for Hardwick, who gained acclaim for his role as James “Ghost” St. Patrick in Power. He is set to appear in the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Section 31 and Prime Video’s limited series The Greatest, which centers on Muhammad Ali. Additionally, he will begin work on the prequel series Start Of Watch for MGM+. Last year, Hardwick received a Grammy nomination for his spoken word poetry.
He is represented by UTA, Strand Management, and Sloane, Offer.
